West Base 1 go on safari in West Base 2!

Today, West Base 1 children were shown advertisements written by West Base 2. These advertisements were trying to persuade West Base 1 to come and see the African animal habitats. The persuasive writing was successful! The children from West Base 1 were very impressed.

Star of the Day!

In Gateway Base, these lovely children achieved Star of the Day yesterday and today. Well done to them all!

Wren week in Gateway Base

Wren week arrived in Gateway Base at lunchtime today with sphero racing.

We had time trials to get around the racetrack but it wasn't as easy as it looked. There were 5 second penalties each time you went outside the lines!

It was great fun and we raised a good amount for charity.

Amazing Habitats ... in a shoe box!

The children in West Base 2 at Osprey Quay have been bringing in their homework from the Take Away homework they received last month. Here are some of the results so far ... they are amazing!

Some of us did every bit on our own!

Yes, there are penguins which live on the coast of Africa.

Gateway Base Project Outcomes

This afternoon saw the conclusion to the project work we have been producing over the last half term.

Over the past 6 weeks we have been working on the project 'What's in a building?'

Today we had to exhibit our work and present it to guest architects, surveyors and project managers from the building company Wates.

Our guest judges spent time talking to all the pupils in the base and have awarded special commendations to some of our students.

Our exhibition will stay in place during parents evening next week please do come and visit and celebrate the excellent work our children have produced.

Maritime House Visit

Yesterday, two more groups of students from Gateway Base were lucky enough to visit the re-build of Maritime House. After our safety briefing we were all kitted out with Personal Protective Equipment.

The Project Manager, Neil from Wates showed us the new build of the Sports Hall and how it is progressing. This week the roof is being cladded, from the photo you can just see the blue safety net to prevent anyone or anything falling.

We then toured the the new Dinning Room, Art Studio and Recording Studio and one of the Home Bases.

The children all took turns in asking some brilliant question and the team from Wates were fantastic at answering them the best they could!

Star Of The Day!

Top effort from these lovely ladies, gaining Star of the Day in the Gateway Base.

Do we work harder in different colour lights!

Some Gateway pupils have been looking at lighting in their learning spaces. The want to find out if the colour of the lights change the way we learn.

Today we have been using red lighting in the classroom to see how we feel when working in the space. It has been interesting to see and we like the light. It's not as bright as 'normal lighting' but we think that a green colour will be better.

Tomorrow we will be trialling other colours to see how we feel.

Room 101 Persuasive writing

Today we had some fun with our persuasive writing, we had to choose objects to put into room 101 and ensure we had convincing arguments behind our choices.

Here are some of our arguments, I wonder what you think should go into room 101?

West Base 2: Home Learning

For any children who need the home learning...

Thursday engineering challenge: Scaffolding

Today in Gateway Learning Base we had to build a scaffold tower constructed only out of straws.

It was a tricky task. We designed, built, evaluated and then redesigned to get the perfect structure.

We will let you know next week if our towers can support a full cup of water. Something tells me we might end up getting wet!

Gateway Base problem solving

Today in Gateway Base we had to solve some mathematical investigations. We were given the task of sorting numbers depending on their properties. We worked which numbers were prime numbers, factors and squared numbers to mention a few.

It was fun working in groups and trying to solve these problems together.
