Gateway Base Takeaway Homework

Today Pupils from Gateway Base were given takeaway homework tasks for our new topic 'I'm a survivor'.

The tasks and activities are designed to support the learning in Gateway Base. We look forward to sharing some great projects with you.

Year 6 Topic Hook Day: Survival

A reminder that tomorrow Gateway Learning Base pupils will spend the day out and about on Portland.

As with all topics we look for an engaging ‘hook’ for children to participate in to develop and promote questioning and interest in the new subject.

This term, we will be looking at a number of Geography objectives. To support these we are asking pupils to come to school in suitable outdoor clothing (including warm trousers, we will be outside all day) a waterproof coat and wellington boots or trainers that can get muddy. Please could you ensure your child has a suitable packed lunch in a backpack, they will be required to carry their belongings all day. If your child has free school lunches, a packed lunch will be provided for them.

New topic time in Gateway Base

This half term we have a new topic focus in Gateway Base.

This afternoon saw us researching some famous people and this evening the base has had a makeover.

Can you guess what we are studying?

Maths in Gateway Base

Today's maths saw some super problem solving using our fraction knowledge.

We worked in pairs to solve a puzzle calculating equivalent fractions.

Celebrations in Gateway Base

Another great week in Gateway base. This week we celebrated readers, mathematicians, citizens, rugby players, orienteering competitors, cyclists and a general great bunch of hard workers. I'm not sure we could ask for anything more!

Well done everyone.

West Base 2: SURVIVAL!

We have been enjoying our new topic: survival!

On Monday, we learnt about the nutritional value of different bugs. They taste disgusting but are rich in protein- handy if you are stranded in the rainforest!

Today we learnt a bit about friction and fire making.

Lastly, we begun our art project! We planned our oil pastel drawings. Our inspiration is coming from animals who use camouflage to survive.

Maths investigation in Gateway Learning Base

Yesterday in gateway base we were working on a problem solving task.

Tasks are designed to encourage children  to find their own solutions using their prior knowledge and tools available in the base to solve the task.

Gateway base, are you ready for our challenge?

#IPACALearn Bingo

Inspired by a picture of one of our pupils reading his SPaG and Maths revision guides on a plane and another using his time on the school bus this morning to swot up on some maths, Gateway Base Learners have decided they would like a half term Revision Challenge, so welcome to the #IPACALearn knowledge building challenge! Join us and challenge yourself with the most weird and wonderful challenges dreamt up by the Gateway Base Learners themselves (you can blame them!) and remember - points mean prizes!

You can approach the Reading Bingo card however you like: beginners, start by getting one line; if you’re more advanced, try the whole outside box on the card; experts, fill in the whole card! We would love to see your pictures of where and what you’ve been reading, you can give these pictures directly to your teacher, email them over or share them on Twitter using the hashtag #IPACALearnBingo. We will be updating the blog over half term with pictures so keep an eye out!

It's great to see some learners already working hard, keep it up!
