Olympic trials. Are you tough enough.

Today saw a highly competitive round of Olympic trials take place in the Gateway Learning base at Royal Manor Campus.

As part of our language and culture theme, learners had to compete the win the rights to represent their country. There were a number of country specific tasks to take part in (from a marshmallow challenge to a oily arm wrestle) but in the end only the toughest made the cut.

We are looking forward to exploring our countries further during the next few weeks of term and will be presenting our work in an exhibition at the end of term.

Euro 2016 kicked off early in West Base 2

On Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, West Base 2 took part in a football tournament to mark the start of Euro 2016. A fabulous time was had by all and we saw plenty of great sportsmanship.
Well done to Italy, Bulgaria and Canada for winning their groups. (OK, so I know it's not Europe...)

Stay and Learn in Gateway Base

It was great to have parents join us for another Stay and Learn session this morning.

Each Wednesday we are running short Maths investigations and invite parents, carers or relatives to come in, experience Gateway Base and learn alongside their children.

This morning Miss Heppell's class were looking at Maths and art, using algebra to create decorative shapes.

Miss Mills's group were investigating measurements

Mr Thorne's group were outside looking at the maths in nature.

We hope to see more parents and relatives join us next week.

A life on the Ocean Wave...

Phew, what a day.

Today Gateway Base Learners hit the water, alongside competitors from all over the world, racing in the World Cup event at Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy - How cool is that!

We split into two groups, and hit the water, after a quick catch up with the skills and techniques required to get our boat around a simple course.

What a fabulous day, I'm never heard so many laughs, giggles and screams of joy from all the Learners involved.

Maybe we should start every week on the water, I know of a group of Learners who wouldn't say no to this!

A special mention to Orson and Sammy who were awarded Sailors of the day - Awesome work.

A reminder to all GATEWAY BASE Learners.

Tomorrow we will be spending the day Sailing and Geocaching - exploring our coastline. Please remember to bring a packed lunch.

For the Geocaching element of our day, please bring suitable clothes and shoes for walking (including sun cream/hat or waterproof coat depending on the weather) .

For the sailing element, Learners need to bring swimwear, a towel and footwear that can get wet.

Usual time start in the morning please, either at Royal Manor Campus - where you will be met by Mr Thorne and Mrs Russell - or at Osprey Quay - where you will be met by Miss Mills and Miss Heppell.

We are looking forward to a great day and will make sure we share lots of pictures with you all.
